‘O Holy Night: An evening of Music and Song’ took place on December 1st comprising an uplifting programme of vocal and instrumental music; some of which was festively Christmassy.
The choir commenced by getting us in the yuletide mood with Rutter’s Star Carol and they kept the mood up throughout the night with festive favourites like O’ Holy Night, Silent Night, and Walking in the Air. But there was also room for a couple of numbers from Musicals such as “For Good” from Wicked and “When I Grow Up” from Matilda, which featured solos from Maxine Rivera, Tara Brilly, and Melissa Muresan.
Solo performers included singers Amy Moore, Emily O’Neill, and Taylor Smith while Eva Anino played sumptuous piano chords in her jazzy number called ‘Connie’ and Kellie O’Neill treated us to a Bach Allemande of real quality on the viola.
There were also the recorder consorts of 2nd and 3rd-year music classes and collaboration of the 5th and 6th-year music students on George Ezra’s Budapest.
The audience themselves joined in with the choir on “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” which rounded off the night with a merry melody.
